Combine the cruise with the het Grachtenhuis Museum!

Museum Het Grachtenhuis opened its doors on 1 April 2012. Visitors to Museum Het Grachtenhuis get acquainted with one of the best city expansions in the world by means of a multimedia exhibition: the seventeenth-century canal belt in Amsterdam. Every year, thousands of visitors travel through 400 years of history through a permanent multimedia exhibition.

The museum on the Herengracht 386 was founded as a heritage institution where the (genesis) history and the contemporary meaning of the canals are told and made accessible. For centuries, the Amsterdam canals have been celebrated, sung and described, both from a cultural-historical, scientific, planning, architectural and aesthetic perspective. Amsterdam has one of the most striking inner cities in the world, developed in a short time on the basis of a unique urban design concept that has lost nothing of strength and beauty four centuries later. In addition, this district has a pearl necklace of special canal houses and gardens and above all an exceptional history of freedom, trade spirit, tolerance, diversity and prosperity. The clustering of these special values, qualities, stories and studies is part of the immaterial heritage of the Amsterdam canals. World-class heritage.
A recognition that was confirmed by UNESCO in 2010 on the World Heritage List.

Museum Het Grachtenhuis fills a gap in the narrations of the history of Amsterdam: a place where the story of the canals is told in an accessible and approachable way, but also a place that is literally and figuratively the gateway to the experience of the Amsterdam canal belt.
