A visit to the VAN GOGH MUSEUM is a unique experience. The museum contains the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world. It provides the opportunity to keep track of the artist's developments, or compare his paintings to works by other artists from the 19th century in the collection. The museum also holds an extensive offer of exhibitions on various subjects from 19th-century art history.

Experience Amsterdam from the water and surprise yourself during a 1 hour cruise along all highlights of the Amsterdam canals. The canal cruise takes you through the Amsterdam canals. Alongside these canals you can see 17th century merchant houses, with their beautiful fronts and churches with bell towers.

You will receive an extra voucher for the canal cruise which you can use any time the same day.

Opening times:

Tip: visit the museum from 9 am to 11 am or after 3 pm. The busiest times are between 11 am and 3 pm.

1 january 11 am to 7 pm

2 January - 8 January 9 am to 7 pm Fridays until 10 pm, Saturdays until 9 pm

27 March - 13 July 9 am to 6 pm Fridays until 10 pm

15 July - 4 September  9 am to 7 pm, Fridays until 10 pm, Saturdays until 9 pm

5 September - 6 November 9 am to 6 pm, Fridays until 10 pm

All other days:

9 am to 5 pm and Fridays until 10 pm

Permanent collection

The museum’s permanent collection includes more than 200 paintings by Van Gogh and many drawings and letters. Take a look at a selection from our collection.  

Works by other artists in the collection

In addition to work by Van Gogh, the museum has a rich and varied collection of other 19th-century art. The artists represented include Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and others: Van Gogh’s friends and contemporaries, those who inspired him, and those who drew inspiration from him.

You will have to exchange your voucher at Damrak 26.

There you receive your entrance ticket and your ticket for the canal cruise. It is up to you whether you go first to the museum and than to the canal cruise or the other way around.
