5 out of 5 stars (8 reviews)

Description

Walk through Amsterdam with a professional guide that shows you Amsterdam during the second world war, through the eyes of Anne Frank. The tour goes from the Jewish Quarter to Anne Frank's House, for the complete storyline of these days of war.

Itinerary

Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank.

Meet your guide at the entrance of the Jewish Historical Museum. (Address: Nieuwe Amstelstraat 1) Stroll past monuments and buildings still marked by traces of war. Your guide will bring the history to life, giving you a sense of how the city’s citizens behaved during the occupation, and how they moved around in times of horror.

Learn why the Dutch tried to co-exist with the occupying army, and how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam like Anne Frank. Hear about special events, such as the February Strike and Winter of Hunger.

Visit the Jewish neighbourhood with its Portuguese synagogue and museum, and the head office of the Jewish counsel. Discover locations the Dutch resistance offered as secret hiding places to families like the Franks. The tour ends at Anne Frank's House. Tickets are not included an can only be booked through the website of the Anne Frank museum online. They cannot be purchased on the spot.

Ideal for fans of WWII history, the tour also gives an insight into how the Jewish community lived, survived and still thrive in Amsterdam.

" Great Anne Frank Walking Tour "
5 out of 5 stars
The walking tour was phenomenal. It was led by Bec and she was very informative about Anne Frank and her family and how the Jewish people suffered in Amsterdam during World War II. Bec was well prepared, friendly, and managed a large tour very well. The tour was educational and I highly recommend it. Make sure to book tickets for the Anne Frank house in advance. We toured the house afterwards and that is a must, in addition to the Anne Frank Walking Tour.

Informative. The guide wasn't very enthusiastic... Too much walking and not enough content.
" Interesting "
4 out of 5 stars
The tour started right on time. There were so many people that they split us up into three groups. Great idea! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. I could’ve done without his comments about the US President but he only made two. Perfect length and good choice of sites.
" Unforgettable and very moving "
5 out of 5 stars
Our guide, Wybe (Daniel) was excellent and brought a personal perspective to our tour which really brought it to home to us how things were during that time in Amsterdam, while at the same time making us feel at ease in his company.
" Perfect "
5 out of 5 stars
Floor, our tour guide, was a perfect combination of knowledge, sweetness, sense of humor. She was able to relate to all age groups and to people from several different countries. I was mesmerized by her story telling. She was informal and folksy, with information at her fingertips. She made history come alive. I will never forget today’s walking tour through Amsterdam. Floor is an absolute gem.
" A walk through history "
5 out of 5 stars
Our guide Floor had an excellent grasp of the details of this period painting a detailed picture of life for the Jewish population in general and the Franks in particular. Interspersed with passages from the diary and supplemented by photos of the time and artefacts Floor took us on a fascinating journey back in time to life in Amsterdam during WW2. I regularly do walking tours on holiday and this is one of the best I have taken. I am very interested in this era and have read widely on the subject but I learned alot of new information. I highly recommend this tour and the guide Floor.
" Excellent and informative "

Our guide Bram was very knowledgable and was very welcoming and made the tour a great experience adding some stories of his own . Definitely reccomend the tour and guide
" Great guide telling both sides of the story "
5 out of 5 stars
Our guide Floor, took us to the important sites around the center, many that you wouldn't notice yourself. Floor told the story in a living maner and was very easy to communicate with. Especially the ability to point out that history on both Dutch and German side was much more complex than most realize with good and bad descisions on both sides. This tour was history at its best.
